What are Student Activity Funds?

A student activity fund is an amount of money set aside specifically for supporting various activities and programs organized by students within an educational institution.

Student activity funds are typically raised through fundraisers, donations, and fees. These funds are intended to support and enhance the educational experiences and extracurricular activities of the students.

Student activity funds belong to the students, and students are involved in managing and directing the organization’s activities and funds.

School districts have fiduciary responsibility for these funds, meaning they have a legal and ethical duty, to manage and oversee these funds appropriately. They must ensure that the student activity funds are used solely for the benefit of the students and for the purposes specified, such as organizing events, purchasing equipment, or supporting clubs and organizations.

School districts are expected to maintain transparency and accountability in handling these funds, keeping accurate records, and using the money in accordance with the student's interests.

Misusing or misappropriating student activity funds is a violation of this fiduciary responsibility.
